Choosing a Face Lift in Tucson

Face lift surgery, technically known as a rhytidectomy, lifts and reframes sagging skin and facial muscles, creating a more youthful appearance with diminished wrinkles. Dr. Olson performs face lifts by removing excess sagging skin and/or fat, tightening underlying facial muscles, reshaping facial tissues, and repositioning the skin. This procedure can:

  • Improve facial sagging from the cheeks to the jowls
  • Reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the lower face
  • Diminish excess fat in the lower cheeks and jowl area

Dr. Olson primarily uses two approaches for his Tucson facelift patients: the short scar or deep plane lift. The techniques differ in the length of incisions required and the extent of surgical correction.

  • The short scar approach often works well for many patients. The technique involves incisions behind or along the temporal hairline that extend around the front of the ear.
  • A deep plane approach is best for people with more severe signs of facial aging. This technique requires an incision that extends from the earlobe around the front of the ear and extending into the hairline. The longer incision allows Dr. Olson greater access to the underlying facial musculature.

A face lift may be performed as a standalone procedure or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures and treatments, including injectable fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic or eyelid surgery. Dr. Olson is recognized for his refined techniques and focuses on finding the least invasive approach to achieve his patients' goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a short scar or deep plane face lift?

Dr. Olson will evaluate your skin elasticity, bone structure as well as the degree of excess fat, skin and sagging muscle to determine the best approach for treatment. The short scar technique is more limited in the degree of rejuvenation compared to a deep plane lift.

How long will my face lift results last?

Factors such as skin quality, heredity, and lifestyle habits may affect the longevity of your results. However, the results of the facelift can last 10 to 15 years or more with proper care. Many face lift patients choose injectable treatments to keep their results looking fresh.

What can I expect from my face lift recovery?

Choosing a board-certified facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Olson helps to ensure that your recovery goes smoothly. Dr. Olson will provide you with post-surgical instructions to minimize recovery time and create beautiful results. He recommends that his patients allow 7 to 10 days for rest, at which time swelling and bruising will begin to subside. Discomfort in the first few days can be managed with medication. Exercise should be avoided for a few weeks thereafter. If you are a smoker, you will be advised to quit. Smoking will affect both the results of surgery and the appearance of the facelift over time.
