An excellent option for gently exfoliating skin, microdermabrasion can accelerate the skin regeneration process and even make it more responsive to the active ingredients in some skincare products. Microdermabrasion in our Tucson practice is gentle enough to be a regular part of your skincare regimen, but effective enough to create a beautiful glow.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a type of clinical-strength exfoliation used to improve a variety of skin concerns. Completely non–invasive, it's a gentle option for targeting specific skin concerns as well as improving skin's general appearance.

Are You a Candidate?

Microdermabrasion is gentle and non-invasive, making it well–tolerated by a wide variety of people. You may find it helpful if you have any of the following concerns:

  • Uneven skin texture
  • Certain types of scars, especially acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness
  • Blackheads

Your Treatment Experience

We begin the microdermabrasion process by gently cleansing your skin to remove as much dirt and other impurities as possible. Your skincare specialist then moves the microdermabrasion wand across your skin, and the wand propels a jet of very tiny crystals to dislodge dirt, oil deposits, and skin cells. At the same time, the handpiece suctions away the crystals and debris, leaving behind smoother, more even-toned skin. Microdermabrasion also gently stimulates collagen development to further smooth and firm your skin, leading to more sustained results.

Microdermabrasion Recovery and Results

The microdermabrasion procedure doesn't require anesthetic or any type of significant aftercare, so you can go back to your normal activities as soon as you leave our office. We apply a gentle topical product to nourish and protect your skin after treatment, and we encourage you to avoid sun exposure for a few days. Immediately after treatment, your skin may be slightly red and inflamed. However, you'll also notice a beautiful glow–if not immediately, then likely within a few hours of your procedure. Your results can last for weeks. We may recommend a series of treatments to maintain your results or to treat a specific concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is microdermabrasion right for everyone?

Although microdermabrasion is gentle enough to be tolerated by most people, it's not right for everyone. Generally, we caution against the treatment for anyone with active skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea. Those with uncontrolled diabetes are not eligible for treatment. Additionally, the presence of warts or lesions on the treatment area may preclude a patient from treatment. If you have more significant aesthetic concerns, we can recommend a treatment that's better suited to your needs, such as laser skin rejuvenation or intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation.

How often should I have microdermabrasion?

The answer depends on the specific condition you'd like to treat. Microdermabrasion treatments can be administered weekly, monthly, or somewhere in between. During your first visit, your provider evaluates your skin and talks to you about a treatment plan that works for you.

We look forward to planning the perfect skincare regimen for you. Request your consultation  online or call us at (520) 731-1110 today.
