Choosing a Brow Lift

Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, subtly elevates the eyebrows and smoothes forehead wrinkles, creating a refreshed and relaxed appearance. The goal of this operation is to lift the lateral portion of the brow while softening the creases of the forehead. At all costs, Dr. Olson avoids elevating the more central portion of the eyebrow thereby avoiding a “surprised” look. Typically, a limited incision brow lift can be performed. This procedure should accomplish the following:

  • Significantly diminish forehead wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of the upper eyelids
  • Lift hooded eyebrows

Brow Lift Techniques

Dr. Olson primarily uses limited incision techniques both with and without an endoscope for his Tucson brow lift patients. This technique uses a relatively short incision hidden behind the hairline at the temples (sides of the head). Occasionally a brow lift is performed where incisions are placed just within the frontal hairline.

A brow lift may be performed on its own or in conjunction with other procedures, including a facelift, injectable fillers, or BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the brow lifting techniques differ?

While similar results can be achieved with these techniques, the limited scar approach offers several advantages. In most cases, direct vision of the surgical area with or without the endoscope, which is possible with the limited scar technique, is preferable. In addition, this technique allows Dr. Olson to rejuvenate the sides of the brow and the outsides of the eyes for a more complete smoothing of the upper face.

What type of anesthesia will be used during brow lift surgery?

Like with most other facial plastic surgery procedures, including rhinoplasty in Tucson, Dr. Olson uses local anesthesia and sedation or general anesthesia to perform brow lift surgery. In both types, you will not be able to feel any discomfort during the procedure. Together, both you and Dr. Olson will decide which type of anesthesia is best.

Will my brow lift results last forever?

Factors such as genetics may affect the longevity of your results. However, the results of the brow lift can last 10 to 15 years or more with proper care of your skin and body. Many brow lift patients choose to keep their surgical results looking fresh through regular treatments with BOTOX or a facial filler.

What can I expect during my brow lift recovery?

Dr. Olson will provide you with post-surgical instructions to reduce recovery time and create very pleasing results. He recommends that his patients allow 7 days for rest, at which time swelling and bruising will have begun to subside. Minor discomfort in the first few days can be relieved with medication. Exercise should be avoided for a few weeks to allow for proper healing, but you’ll likely be able to do most normal activities in a week, or sooner.
