Direct Neck Lift

The neck is one of the first areas many people notice signs of aging. Sun damage, gravity, and in some cases, genetic traits create sagging skin and excess fat below the chin, even if the rest of the face retains more of a youthful appearance. Men and women who come to our Tucson practice for a facelift may get the results they want from a neck lift, which can create a more well-defined chin and jawline.

Choosing a Neck Lift

Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jerold Olson can restore the contours of a more youthful neck without a facelift, an option that men often find preferable. Both men and women who feel their “turkey neck” appearance makes them look older than they actually are choose neck lift surgery.

Dr. Olson may recommend a neck lift for patients concerned about:

  • Sagging, “crepey” skin beneath the chin
  • The accumulation of excess fat that creates a double chin
  • Neck bands and other lines and wrinkles

The consultation is when you can share your specific concerns with Dr. Olson, along with your cosmetic goals and other information that helps him create a customized surgical plan.

Neck Lift Techniques

A neck lift is a much less invasive procedure than a facelift, focusing specifically on the chin and upper neck area. Dr. Olson performs neck lift procedures in our office using a local anesthetic, making incisions below the chin.  These incisions provide him access to muscle and tissue that he tightens and repositions to create the toned, more defined appearance that you want. He also removes excess skin and fat before suturing the incisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from a neck lift recovery?

Most patients need 10 days to recover following a neck lift. You can ensure a smooth recovery process and minimize the risk of post-surgical complications by choosing a board-certified facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Olson. Dr. Olson provides all patients post-operative instructions that, when closely followed, decrease recovery time and enhance the results. In the days leading up to the surgery, we also instruct patients to avoid certain medications that can increase post-op bleeding and bruising.

Can I combine a neck lift with other procedures?

Absolutely. Patients who need a neck lift often benefit from nonsurgical treatments to improve the appearance of other areas of their faces. These treatments may include cosmetic injectables such as BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers or PRP microneedling to improve the skin’s tone and texture.

How much does a neck lift cost?

The cost of a neck lift—as with any cosmetic plastic surgery—varies depending on the patient’s specific concerns, among other factors. The plastic surgeon’s training and experience, the type of anesthetic used, and even the geographic location of a practice can all influence how much a neck lift costs. A neck lift in Tucson is unlikely to cost the same as one in a larger metropolitan area.
