NeoGraft®

A full head of hair is often associated with youth, virility, femininity, and masculinity. If your hair is thinning or balding, it may make you feel self-conscious, embarrassed or less attractive. While you can’t change your genetics, advanced hair transplant techniques can give you a fuller, natural-looking hairline using your own hair. Foothills Dermatology and Facial Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer superior hair restoration results with the state-of-the-art NeoGraft® hair transplant system in Tucson. A procedure appropriate for both men and women.

How Hair Transplants Work

Hair transplant involves removing active hair follicles from a donor area of the scalp and implanting them in the places where the scalp is thinning or balding. Donor areas of the scalp are usually on the back and sides of the head where the follicles are not typically predisposed to balding.

Is Hair Transplant for You?

The first step in treating your hair loss is a consultation with one of our doctors. We will perform a thorough review of your medical history and a physical examination, to rule out medical causes for your hair loss. Good candidates for a hair transplant procedure have these traits:

  • Hair loss caused by a genetic condition called androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness)
  • A sufficient number of active hair follicles to be used as donor hair
  • Realistic expectations for their results

If you are not a candidate for the procedure, your doctor may recommend oral or topical medication to treat your hair loss.

How FUE Compares to FUT

The NeoGraft system involves a type of hair replacement procedure called follicular unit extraction (FUE). A follicular unit is a natural grouping of 1 to 4 hairs. While the older, more invasive follicular unit transplantation (FUT) technique, often called the strip method, involves harvesting follicles from a surgically removed strip of the scalp, the FUE technique removes the follicles individually, in their follicular units. The strip method requires staples or stitches along the incision, which leaves a long scar. FUE does not require stitches, and the resulting scars are tiny, inconspicuous dots.

Hair Transplant With NeoGraft

We perform NeoGraft hair transplant as an in-office procedure. The hair in the donor site is trimmed very short, and the scalp is numbed with a local anesthetic. We then harvest the individual grafts. The NeoGraft handpiece automates harvesting of the donor follicles and creates grafts of uniform diameter and depth. Once enough grafts have been collected, the balding area is numbed and each graft is meticulously transplanted to its new location.

Advantages of NeoGraft

FUE hair transplant with the advanced NeoGraft system offers many advantages over the strip method:

  • No linear scar on the scalp
  • High survival rate of grafts
  • Little to no discomfort after the procedure
  • Minimal recovery time
  • Discreet results — even when hair is very short

Results are enhanced by the skill and experience of the doctor. Aesthetic factors, such as matching the texture and growth pattern of the existing hair, should be considered when placing grafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I wash my hair?

After your procedure, you will be given specific after-care instructions to follow. In general, it is safe to gently rinse your hair 48 hours after the FUE procedure. We recommend diluting baby shampoo in a container filled with warm –not hot– water and pouring it slowly over your head. Follow with clean water in the same careful manner until the scalp is completely rinsed, and softly pat dry with a clean towel.

Is there recovery time needed after NeoGraft?

Recovery rates depend on the number of grafts placed and other individual factors. While some patients return to work the day after their procedure, many take a few days off.

Will my hair fill in right after the procedure?

While recovery is quick after a FUE hair transplant, results take some time to develop. In most cases, the hair falls out of the transplanted follicles within 2 to 3 weeks, and new hair grows in over approximately 4 to 6 months.

Can NeoGraft be used for women?

For women whose hair loss is not due to a treatable medical condition, NeoGraft may be an excellent option for filling in thinning hair along the hairline or on the top of the head. Hair transplant can also be used to fill in obvious scars along the hairline caused by cosmetic surgery.

To restore your hairline with your own natural hair, request a consultation online or call (520) 731-1110, and we’ll be happy to talk with you about the benefits of NeoGraft hair restoration treatments. We serve Sierra Vista, Green Valley, and other nearby communities.
